History of KC Labs
About 2001 my husband and I
decided we wanted a universal hunting and family dog in our lives. We’d been hunting the previous year and lost
about two thirds of the dove we had shot.
Neither of us had hunted with dogs before, but decided that we were not
going to repeat a hunt year like that one again.
We tried getting a lab from a
local “back yard” breeder and had a terrible experience with a severely
dysfunctional dog. After that dog had
run away, we did a search on the web for a reputable breeder. We came across a breeder with what we
considered a unique guarantee (after our experience with the previous breeder)
and gave them a call. To make things
even better, they were located only about 100 miles from us in central
We paid them a visit and were
very impressed with their methods of matching a dog with us and our needs,
their breeding techniques, as well as their training capabilities.
We had never before purchased
something sight unseen, but placed a deposit on a pup not even whelped
yet. Something we’d never thought we’d
do. After the pups were born we selected
an active female as our first “real” lab.
Lucchese (KC) was our first Labrador Retriever.
After about 6 months of
training and living with KC, we decided we wanted a hunting dog for each of us
and a mate for KC…that’s where our yellow male lab Murphy came in.

Murphy K.C.
Our first intention was to
have a hunting dog for dove, quail and duck, but KC became more than just a
superior hunting dog, she is our fabulous companion. During her first dove hunting season she
worked for 5 hunters and we only lost 5 birds between us while packing the
freezer for the year to come. KC seemed
to know exactly what to do and the inbred talent and training was a joy to
watch. It was a little much to ask her
to do (retrieve for 5 folks), and we couldn’t wait to get Murphy up to speed
for the next season.
Now Lucchese and Murphy have
both earned their Started Retriever titles from the North American Hunting
Retriever Association (NAHRA) and we’re looking forward to advancing their
training and skills further.
We decided that with the
excellent retrieving skills and blood lines that both of these dogs possess, as
well as their great temperaments, we should offer these traits to others to
enjoy as well. That is how the idea for
KC Labs, LLC came to be.
KC and Murph had their first
litter together, born over Christmas Eve and Christmas day of 2002. They’ve now had their 2nd litter
on
These pups should be
available to go to new homes in late February, ’04.
